FSGO on Jun Lozada

STATEMENT ON THE ARREST OF JUN LOZADA (29 April 2009)

We, the Former Senior Government Officials (FSGO), condemn in the strongest terms the arrest of Engineer Rodolfo “Jun” Lozada, over flimsy and concocted perjury charges filed by PNR General Manager Michael T. Defensor against him. His arrest stands in stark contrast to the freedom and impunity enjoyed by such allies of the current regime accused of far greater offenses -- Jocelyn “Joc-joc” Bolante, Benjamin Abalos, Romulo Neri, Hernando B. Perez, Virgilio Garcillano, Jesus Martinez, Eliseo dela Paz, and others of similar notoriety.

The minions of the current regime find it all too easy to persecute to the fullest all those who expose its abuses, and oppose its corruption and bad governance. Whistleblowers are harassed and hounded, even as obvious prevaricators and practitioners of corruption are protected, promoted, and highly rewarded. What kind of message do we thus send to our people -- that good is punished and evil rewarded?

How have we as a people come to this state of things?

We call on Mike Defensor to stop posturing as if he is the aggrieved person, even as he was clearly a participant in the cover-up of what became an aborted abduction of Jun Lozada. What moral values does he hope to impart to his young children with his vain and obstinate defense of injured pride, while participating in the cover-up of gross abuses against our people and our laws?

Jun Lozada’s persecution demonstrates how truth has been sacrificed at the altar of immoderate greed. We enjoin all sectors of our society to protest Lozada’s incarceration in the strongest terms, and show to the world that we are not helpless in fighting for our rights and freedoms, that we have not, as a people, surrendered to evil.

If Jun Lozada has got the goods on these corrupt government officials, it must be the job of the Courts (up to the Supreme Court) to adjudicate them. File the cases already, if any. Double it up with a media movement to get to the bottom of the chicanery.

The press has already lost some of its crusading members through one of the world's most hideous killings of mediamen. Where is their sting?

I hope your group of former senior government officials would help Lozada with his mission to expose and eliminate these malignancy.

It is not the function of government functionaries to muddy the issue with frivolous cases filed to scare Lozada.

He is not the least afraid. He has already shown this. This is one good reason why even the religious community supports him.

I thought the name "Defensor" is synonymous to a brave soul in the Senate who would not hesitate to call a spade a spade however insane it may sound!

I worked with a Matias Defensor once in the Ministry of Public Information -- he was an honorable man. I understand Mike is his son.
And the Senator an elderly relative. Has the apple fallen a lot farther away from the tree?

Does Mike Defensor want to replace Exective Secretary Ermita soon by scoring points for the Arroyo government? Or does he have the necessary legal wherewithal to destory Lozada, if indeed
this witness is a buffoon or a liar out to get his 15 seconds of fame? The 15 seconds has long gone. He is here to stay.

If Cardinal Sin were still around, would he rally behind Lozada? Or is he turning in his grave?

Mabuhay po kayong mga nakikibaka para ang katotohanan at kalinisan sa pamahalaan ang siyang tanging iiral sa kabila ng karimlan at kabuktutan ng mga garapal na nasa poder.

I support your cause, Dr. Cruz and company!
